More impressively, it can automatically correct distortions to the shapes of bodies and faces located along the edges of wide-angle photos so when correcting distortion in buildings, faces/bodies aren't pulled out of shape.

When correcting lens distortion, the software refers to DxO's optical modules so it can successfully remove all types of distortion, including barrel, pincushion, and fisheye distortion. The Nik Collection by DxO has some really popular photo editing plugins that apply filters to your images but the new Perspective Efex plugin, which takes the total to 8, is more about perfecting your image before applying filters as it's designed to correct geometric issues. It uses a number of tools to remove defects such as correcting leading lines, shape distortion, fish-eye distortion and horizon correction.Įach correction available is easy to apply as you can either opt to use the automated options and/or fine-tune them with DxO's Control Point tool. However, I'll wait to see whether people find that it is useful after these and the other bugs have been worked out.Nik Collection 3 by DxO Handling & Performance

Version 4 offers more control over the definition of control points, which at least in principle sounds useful. But apart from that, my use of version 3 has been identical to my use of version 2. There have been some editing updates also I bought the last version for Perspective Efex, which I didn't have because I don't have other DxO software.

My impression is that many of the additional features in Nik updates have been presets, none of which I have used. I certainly am apart from some film emulation presents in Silver Efex, I don't think I've every used a Nik preset in a finished image. I suspect many people on this forum are more in market #2 than in market #1. To oversimplify, market #1 is people who want presets or effects, and market #2 is people who want editing tools. My impression is that the software is trying to serve two very different markets and that this is pulling them in two very different directions. I just searched (very briefly) for a history of Nik collection upgrades.

If there is an upgrade price for present NIK users. What new capabilities NIK4 will offer me (if any).Ģ. I use portions of it along with ACR and Photoshop for virtually all my workflow. I have been using NIK for years and really like it. I just received an Email announcement of a NIK4 collection.
